Ben is away Rio & Owen on Martinez’s penalty miss in Inter v Atleti

Rio Ferdinand believes Lautaro Martinez was “nervous” before missing the decisive penalty in the Cheap Inter Milan football shirts UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match against Atletico Madrid. The match had been sent to penalty kicks after finishing 2-2 on aggregate goal difference. Captain Martinez needed to convert from the penalty spot to keep hope of progress alive for Inter, who were last season’s runners-up, but shot high and wide.

Rio Ferdinand thinks that Lautaro Martinez is too nervous, as his nightmare will cause the international community to lose the qualification for the European championship league.

The striker missed the decisive penalty in the Round of 16 match against France. Cheap Atletico Madrid football jerseys, high and far to give Diego Simeone’s team the win.

The Spanish team had earlier sent the game into extra time thanks to a late goal from Memphis Depay, which levelled the score at 2-2 on aggregate.

And after goalkeeper Jan Oblak had saved penalties from Alexis Sanchez and Davy Klaassen, Martinez fired over the bar before looking suspiciously at the pitch.

“When he came over, I saw him try to pick up the ball and bounce it in his hands,” Ferdinand said. “But he fumbled it when he did that.

Ferdinand said: “But he dropped the ball while making the move and I thought ‘Oh my God, he can’t hold the ball, he’s so nervous! Oh, he’s gone. His legs have disappeared.

“He puts the ball down and from that point I wasn’t sure about it. I said he would miss. He looks back at the actual penalty spot as well. He’s on a carpet!”

Cheap Martinez football shirts was part of the Inter team that reached last year’s final, where they were eventually defeated by Manchester City.

There will be no such heroics this year, although Simone Inzaghi’s team can at least take comfort in the fact that they are 16 points clear at the top of Serie A.

The evening may well live long in their captain’s memory, although he was not the only player to fail to convert from the spot.

“I thought Klassen’s penalty save was brilliant,” added Michael Owen. “Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“The first two penalties [Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez also had a penalty saved] that were missed were shocking penalties!

“Martinez turned round and looked at the penalty spot, I’m not quite sure why, but you have to blame someone! It’s never your fault, is it! It was a shocker.

“The pressure is huge, absolutely huge on penalties. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, to take a penalty under that pressure.

“I didn’t particularly enjoy it. I don’t think anyone enjoys it. There is no joy. It’s just relief when the ball hits the net.”
